Update on Red Yeast Rice

Thursday June 26, 2008
Evidence continues to accumulate that red yeast rice - at least the kind of red yeast rice that used to be available before the FDA began regulating it - can reduce cholesterol levels and protect against heart disease. A large randomized clinical trial from China, showing that an extract from red yeast rice can significantly reduce heart attacks in high-risk patients, is the latest such study.

But, because "unadulterated" red yeast rice contains naturally-occurring lovastatin, and because lovastatin is a regulated drug, the FDA has mandated that all red yeast rice sold in the U.S. be processed in such a way that the lovastain is removed.

Read here to learn more about this latest evidence that red yeast rice can be beneficial, and to learn what you can do to get the benefits of red yeast rice despite the restrictions placed on this product by regulators.
